Description

Grip strength is one of the first things that slips — and one of the simplest to work on.

Whether you're rebuilding hand strength after a procedure, managing stiffness from arthritis, or simply noticing your grip isn't what it was,  a small, soft ball you can squeeze anywhere is one of the most accessible starting points there is. In a chair, watching television, at the desk. No setup, no space needed.

Soft polyurethane (PU) foam that feels comfortable in the hand, firm enough to provide real resistance without being difficult to squeeze. 7cm diameter. Fits naturally in the palm.

Blue, Red, or Yellow. $35 each.

Who is This For?

This may suit you if:

  • You have reduced grip strength or find everyday tasks like opening jars or holding items more difficult than before
  • You're managing arthritis or joint stiffness in the hands or fingers
  • You're recovering from a hand, wrist, or upper limb procedure and have been cleared to start gentle grip work
  • A physiotherapist has recommended grip strengthening as part of your home exercise programme
  • You want something simple you can use every day without dedicated exercise time
  • You're looking for a small, practical gift for someone working on hand strength

Always consult your physiotherapist before starting if recovering from surgery or managing a specific hand or wrist condition.

Soft Grip Strength Ball - Gentle Strength, Right From the Start

Why we like this

Grip strength is one of those things that's easy to overlook until it's noticeably weaker and then it affects more than you expect. Opening jars, carrying bags, holding a cup steadily. A small ball you can squeeze while sitting is one of the lowest-barrier ways to work on it.

We use these in sessions and recommend them to clients who want something simple they can do every day without carving out exercise time.

The physio behind the store

I built this store because I was already recommending this equipment in sessions every day. As a mobile physio working in people's homes, I know what actually fits a real living room, a real bedroom, a real kitchen and what older adults will actually use.

Everything here has been in my kit bag, used with real clients, and chosen because it works in the home environment, not just in a clinic.

Physio pro tip

How to use it well:

  • Full grip squeeze — hold the ball in your palm and squeeze as firmly as comfortable, hold for three to five seconds then slowly release; this is the core exercise and works the flexor muscles of the fingers, hand and forearm
  • Two-finger pinch — hold the ball between your index finger and thumb and pinch firmly; works the pinch grip used for picking up small objects like keys and coins
  • Three-finger pinch — same as above but add the middle finger; a stronger version targeting the fingertips
  • Without the thumb — squeeze using only your four fingers with thumb resting; isolates the finger flexors more directly
  • Alternate hands — work both hands equally rather than favouring the stronger side

Aim for ten repetitions per exercise, two to three times a day. Muscle fatigue in the hand and forearm is normal — sharp joint pain is not. Stop and consult a health professional if you experience pain.

What makes us different

Everything on this store is something we actually use. It's in our kit bag — we bring it into real sessions with real clients, week after week. If it's here, it's because we've tried it, trusted it, and watched it make a genuine difference.

We're not trying to sell you everything. The range is curated for older adults building strength and independence at home, and simplicity is the whole point. You don't need a home gym. You don't need to be an expert.

As a mobile physio practice, we can only reach so many people in person. This store is how we share what works with everyone else.

Why it matters

Movement keeps you going

57%
of Australians aged 65+ didn't meet physical activity guidelines
AIHW analysis of ABS NHS, 2022
65+
As we get older, staying active keeps you independent and able to do everyday activities
NSW Health, Physical activity guidelines for older adults
30min
of moderate to vigorous activity on most days is what Australian guidelines recommend for 65+
Australian movement guidelines for older adults, 2026

The evidence is clear: it is never too late to start. A few minutes of movement most days adds up to something real over time. You don't need a gym, a trainer, or a complicated programme. You need simple equipment that works at home and a reason to pick it up.

The evidence

Three things regular movement may help maintain

  • Muscle Strength
We naturally lose muscle mass as we age. Resistance exercise is one of the most effective tools for slowing that process — at any age.
  • Balance & Stability
Balance responds well to regular practice. Simple exercises done consistently can make a meaningful difference to how steady you feel day to day.
  • Independence at Home
People over 65 benefit more from adequate fitness than any other age group — to maintain independence, recover from illness, and reduce disease risk.
