Description

Strength without needing to grip. That's the whole idea.

Standard weights assume a strong, pain-free grip. For a lot of people particularly those with arthritis, joint stiffness, or reduced hand strength, that assumption quietly stops them from doing upper limb work they'd otherwise be happy to do.

These slip over your hand instead of being gripped. No squeezing, no straining against the weight, just comfortable resistance that lets you focus on the movement. Soft neoprene outer, iron sand fill for smooth even weight, breathable enough for longer sessions.

Sold as a pair. Pink or Purple.

Who is This For?

This may suit you if:

  • You have arthritis, joint stiffness, or reduced grip strength in your hands or fingers
  • You find standard dumbbells uncomfortable or difficult to hold
  • You're an older adult wanting a gentle, accessible starting point for upper limb strengthening
  • You've been advised by a health professional to start gentle upper limb exercise at home
  • You want a lightweight, easy-to-use option that doesn't require special setup or equipment
  • You're looking for something that works from a chair without needing to stand

Always check with your physiotherapist before starting a new exercise programme, especially if managing a joint condition.

Soft Grip Hand Weights - Strength Without the Strain

Why we like this

Most weights assume a strong grip. For a lot of older adults especially those with arthritis or joint stiffness, that assumption quietly rules them out. These don't require grip at all, which is what makes them genuinely useful rather than just a lighter version of the same problem.

The other thing people notice immediately is how they feel. Soft, almost like a beanbag, nothing like a hard dumbbell. That softness is intentional and it matters. Something that feels approachable to pick up is something you'll actually use.

The physio behind the store

I built this store because I was already recommending this equipment in sessions every day. As a mobile physio working in people's homes, I know what actually fits a real living room, a real bedroom, a real kitchen and what older adults will actually use.

Everything here has been in my kit bag, used with real clients, and chosen because it works in the home environment, not just in a clinic.

Physio pro tip

Starting well:

  • Pick them up before you commit — the soft feel surprises most people; it makes the first session feel far less daunting
  • Focus on smooth, controlled movements — speed is not the goal
  • Shoulder raises, arm curls, and gentle forward punches are good starting movements for most people
  • The slow return counts too — lowering the weight with control does as much work as raising it
  • These work well alongside the mini exercise pedals — upper and lower body in the same seated session

Always check with your physiotherapist or health professional before starting any new exercise programme, particularly if you are managing a joint condition or recovering from a procedure.

What makes us different

Everything on this store is something we actually use. It's in our kit bag — we bring it into real sessions with real clients, week after week. If it's here, it's because we've tried it, trusted it, and watched it make a genuine difference.

We're not trying to sell you everything. The range is curated for older adults building strength and independence at home, and simplicity is the whole point. You don't need a home gym. You don't need to be an expert.

As a mobile physio practice, we can only reach so many people in person. This store is how we share what works with everyone else.

Why it matters

Movement keeps you going

57%
of Australians aged 65+ didn't meet physical activity guidelines
AIHW analysis of ABS NHS, 2022
65+
As we get older, staying active keeps you independent and able to do everyday activities
NSW Health, Physical activity guidelines for older adults
30min
of moderate to vigorous activity on most days is what Australian guidelines recommend for 65+

The evidence is clear: it is never too late to start. A few minutes of movement most days adds up to something real over time. You don't need a gym, a trainer, or a complicated programme. You need simple equipment that works at home and a reason to pick it up.

The evidence

Three things regular movement may help maintain

  • Muscle Strength
We naturally lose muscle mass as we age. Resistance exercise is one of the most effective tools for slowing that process — at any age.
  • Balance & Stability
Balance responds well to regular practice. Simple exercises done consistently can make a meaningful difference to how steady you feel day to day.
  • Independence at Home
People over 65 benefit more from adequate fitness than any other age group — to maintain independence, recover from illness, and reduce disease risk.
